The shift's construction was based on an extant garment from the Historical Williamsburg Collection, as well as the construction noted found in "Costume Close-Up: Clothing Construction & Pattern 1750-1790"

The shift is constructed from a light linen
All seams are backstitched by hand and felled flat.
Shift from the Colonial Williamsburg Collection 1780-1810
Neckline includes small cord to adjust the bust line
Pattern plan based on the width of the fabric and the model's measurements
Triangle arm gussets to increase range of motion. All seams are backstitched and felled.
